Team Member Tuesday: Elsie Rogers

Gosh, we missed Team Member Tuesday yesterday!  Let’s make up for it now with a little bit about Elsie Rogers:

How long have you been with the Division? Since October 2012

EJR CroppedSo what exactly do you DO? I am the Program Manager for Cultural Facilities and Cultural Endowments

What’s your favorite part of your job? Working with and helping grantees and working with my co-workers.  I also love seeing the Cultural Facility projects when they are completed. Being involved with people who love the arts.

Are you an artist yourself? Yes, I am a poet and my MA is in Creative Writing.

What do you like to do for fun? Play tennis, have dinner with family and friends, active vacations…

If you could go anywhere in the world to see art, where would you go and what would you see?

The Louvre Museum in Paris.  I have a minor in Classical Civilization and studied Latin for three semesters as an undergraduate; one semester was in Latin Poetry.  Would love to see Paintings and Sculptures of Michelangelo.

Tell us something surprising about yourself.  I backpacked and camped in the mountains of Connecticut for 10 days beginning two days after Christmas when I was 47. Since I am a Floridian by birth, I had never worn snow shoes and had to wear them because the ice was bad.

Finished my first Triathlon when I turned 60.

Did the half marathon at Disney with Team in Training in January 2011.

Is there anything you’d like to add? I have taught writing at Florida State University, Valdosta State University, and Tallahassee Community College. I was an analyst in the Florida House of Representatives for 5 years.
